As part of conductor Alan Gilbert's farewell celebration, he will be joined by Yo-Yo Ma and members of the Silk Road Ensemble on June 8th. The program will feature The Latina 6/8 Suite composed by Edward Perez to feature Galician bagpiper Cristina Pato.

Performances with the Silk Road Ensemble
Edward Perez joined the Silk Road Ensemble for performances in Santa Clara University and New York's Grand Central Terminal. He will join members of the group for Silkroad's Global Musician Workshop in June of this year and for Alan Gilbert's Concert for Unity with special guest Yo-Yo Ma. Premiere of "Cinco Danzas Para Violín"
Edward Perez's new suite, Cinco Danzas Para Violín, has just been premiered by violinist Johnny Gandelsman as part of St Paul Minnesota's 2017 International Spanish Music Festival. The work explores the connection between movement and music in five musical styles from a variety of hispanic cultures, using a single instrument to evoke the rhythm, dance, and call-and-response present in Afro-Latin musical styles.

The one-week program offers a unique blend of opportunities to delve into a variety of traditions from around the world. All musicians, professionals and students age 18 and over are welcome to apply.
Leading a Big Band
Edward Perez is currently writing new works for the Terraza 7 Big Band, which he co-leads with saxophonists Michael Thomas. The band performs monthly in Queens.
